Compassionate therapy for personal growth and healing.
Dr. Jennifer Perlman is a licensed psychologist with over 25 years of experience in mental health. My practice integrates mental, emotional, and physical health strategies to promote overall well-being and personal growth. I specialize in person centered, psychodynamic therapy and am dedicated to helping clients overcome their challenges. I have been trained in numerous forms of psychotherapy including Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Informed Psychotherapy. Through my training, clinical work and my own life experience I’m able to bring to you a variety of tools, skills and humanity to assist you in growth and healing.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy assumes that in addition to our unique genetic makeup we are shaped by our environment, by our attachments to other people, by the separations, losses and trauma we have experienced and by the support and nurturance we did or did not receive. Our experience throughout life influences the way we see the world, the types of relationships we have, and the way we feel about ourselves. Often we cannot see how these things have affected us because it is all we have known. Symptoms such as anxiety, depression, addictions and difficulties in relationships are our systems way of alerting us to the presence of underlying issues in need of our attention.
In conjunction with the in-depth work of psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive behavioral therapy provides symptom reduction strategies, such as working with negative thoughts, improving distress tolerance, increasing the capacity for self-soothing and self-compassion. Taken together these approaches allow us to work on short-term relief and long-term healing.
I will work with you in an empathetic, present and genuine way to help you heal. I work with all adult humans, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation.
